The beachfront setting of Santa Monica provided the ideal location for this year’s International Conference in October. Welcoming over 160 delegates from over 30 countries, the event provided the perfect location to combine a strong business agenda with the opportunity to renew old friendships, forge new working relationships and at the same time experience the varied sights, sounds and excitement of what is the gateway to Southern California.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Thinking Differently – Thinking Smarter” and the contribution of guest speakers on topics including changing mindsets, re-aligning corporate culture, optimising your web presence and understanding the future challenges facing professional service firms, provided much food for thought.

At the same time the ‘MSI showcase’ sessions once again provided a practical insight into how continuing collaboration between members firms is generating tangible business opportunities.

The social programme provided a fascinating perspective on both Santa Monica and the wider L.A. region – including trips to the fabulous Getty Centre in the Santa Monica mountains and the quintessential Hollywood Walk of Fame and dining at the famous Petersen Automotive Museum as well as Santa Monica’s iconic pier, situated at the end of the historic Route 66, which provided stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and also housed its own amusement park (to the great amusement and entertainment of delegates!).

This was the first Annual Conference for Chief Executive designate Donal Watkin: “Santa Monica has proved a significant success.  With over 90 firms represented, the event has underlined both the strength in depth of our association and the enduring relationships between members that underpin our ability to meet the increasing international requirements of clients. It’s been a great experience to meet so many committed firms, and it has left me with a tremendous sense of optimism as we move into 2013.”
